The geographic coordinates of Gunupur Assembly constituency are: 19°18'59.0"N 83°47'52.1"E. Gunupur shares its borders with five other Assembly constituencies. Other Odisha Assembly constituencies adjacent to Gunupur are: Baliguda, G Udayagiri, Mohana, Paralakhemundi, Bissam Cuttack. This constituency shares an inter-state border with: Andhra Pradesh.

Demographic profile

There were a total of 2,21,495 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Gunpur Assembly election, of which 1,06,684 were male, 1,14,762 female and 49 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,10,520 registered voters, of which 1,06,684 were male, 1,08,863 female and 43 of the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 1,93,641 registered voters in this constituency, of which 94,126 were male, 99,476 female and 39 of the third gender. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 1,78,680 which included 86,199 male, and 92,481 female.

In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Raghunath Gomango of BJD won in this constituency beating Purusottam Gomango of INC by a margin of 6,270 votes which was 4.22% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Trinath Gomango of BJD was the winner in this seat beating Purusattam Gomango of INC by a margin of 7,386 votes which was 5.16% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Ramamurty Mutika of BJD won this seat defeating Sisir Kumar Gamang of INC by a margin of 18,749 votes which was 17.37% of the total votes polled for the seat.
