Demographic profile

There were a total of 2,38,842 registered voters on the electoral rolls for the 2024 Balangir Assembly election, of which 1,20,924 were male, 1,17,873 female and 45 of the third gender. In the 2019 Assembly elections, there were a total of 2,37,457 registered voters, of which 1,20,924 were male, 1,15,269 female and 11 of the third gender. In 2014 elections, there were a total of 2,13,457 registered voters in this constituency, of which 1,11,237 were male, 1,02,214 female and 6 of the third gender. In the 2009 polls, the number of total electors was 2,01,781 which included 1,05,015 male, and 96,766 female.

The number of service voters in Balangir Assembly constituency was 260 in 2019, 95 in 2014 and 81 in 2009.

In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Narasingha Mishra of INC won in this constituency beating Arkesh Narayan Singh Deo of BJD by a margin of 5,341 votes which was 3.08% of the total votes cast. In 2014, Narasingha Mishra of INC was the winner in this seat beating Anag Uday Singhdeo of BJD by a margin of 12,254 votes which was 7.91% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2009 Assembly elections, Anang Uday Singh Deo of BJD won this seat defeating Laxman Kumar Meher of INC by a margin of 16,866 votes which was 12.97% of the total votes polled for the seat.
